É só experiência no circo

Unicycles

THE unicycle section of the show will stick with fans for a long time. Dressed as clowns, each member of the band cycles along a platform linking the two stages - all except Gary, who takes a nipper's bike.

Mark explained: "Howard bought us all unicycles for Christmas and challenged us to learn how to ride them in time for the shows. We've all cracked it except Gary."

Gary added: "Knowing my luck, this lot will do it perfectly and I'll still fall off even though I have two wheels."

Take That on record £50m tour

Take That start the biggest-selling UK tour ever, tonight (Friday 5 June), at Sunderland's Stadium of Light. The Circus Live includes four nights at Wembley Stadium. Lead singer Gary Barlow says rehearsals have been going well and that they're not nervous at all.

How have rehearsals been going. Are you ready to go on stage?

Rehearsals have been going very, very well. I've even remembered all the words now. It should all be in order by tonight (Friday). We've been planning this for about nine months now so we do know the show very, very well. It's a very technical show, we're doing things that have never been done on stage before. We've got a massive cast with us, and an enormous crew, but it's coming together really well.

What are those things that haven't been done before?

I can't give you any hints, just come and see the show and get ready to be blown away. These are the biggest and best shows we have ever done.

Have rehearsals been quite gruelling?

Yep, they've been pretty gruelling. We've been rehearsing for eight weeks now, so we are feeling a bit fitter. It's going to be a work-out every night that's for sure, but our shows are always energetic. The idea is to give the crowd the night of their lives.

Set wise, is it pretty elaborate to look at?

It's extremely elaborate. Our very first tour in 1991, we had one truck and one bus. This time we've got 58 arctic trucks. We've got 238 crew, 40 people on stage alongside us. It's bigger than anything we have ever done. We're going to play to 1.2 million people on this tour. It's a moment
for us this is.

It's the biggest selling UK tour ever. Is there added pressure that goes with that?

I think we always rise to the challenge and enjoy people anticipating what we are going to do next. I think we are very confident with the show we've got. Our audience are the best audience we could have, they react and make noise, they really come ready for a good night.

What can people expect from the set?

We like to do the old stuff, but it obviously features a lot of stuff from the new album. There's something in there for everyone.

Any nerves?

None at all from me. But some of the other lads might be nervous. I just love to get on there.

Take That on record £50m tour

Take That frontman Gary Barlow today told Sunderland to get ready for the biggest party Wearside has ever seen.
As the boys put the finishing touches to their stunning show that kicks off at the Stadium of Light tonight he took time out to speak to the Echo.

Gary said: "It's going to be the greatest day of our lives.

"This is like a dream come true for us. This is a massive, massive tour and not just because of the amount of people, it's the sheer size of the tour as well.

"It's probably seven or eight times bigger than anything we've done before."

Gary and Howard spoke exclusively to the Echo as they prepared to join Mark and Jason on stage for final rehearsals today.

Howard added: "We're really excited. It's going to be a really big day for us and we can't wait to get it started."

After a week of rehearsals the boys are raring to get out there in front of their fans to strut their stuff on stage.

And despite battling pre-show nerves, they have vowed to impress their army of admirers with what they claim is their best show yet.

With plenty of surprises in store, which the boys are keeping well under wraps, flamboyant costumes and some pioneering magic, The Circus Live is definitely going to push the boundaries of gigging.

"This is such a great venue," Gary said. "I can't believe there hasn't been anything put on here before, I think Steve Bruce will be made up.
"We're quite nervous because this is the first night and we've put so much hard work into it.

"We will be doing things that have never been done on stage before and that have never even been done in concert before so we hope to lead on that."

Since landing in Sunderland last weekend, the boys' jam-packed schedule has not given them much time to discover Sunderland but they have had a little time to get to grips with Seaham, where they are staying.

"It's been beautiful weather and there's such a lovely coastline here," Howard said.

"One day, when we had a bit of spare time, me and Gary went for a stroll along the beach and it was absolutely stunning. You're so lucky to have that."

Take That are no strangers to the North East.

Since their first tour in 1991 when they turned up at Newcastle City Hall in one mini bus – a world away from the 59 buses that landed at the Stadium last week – there has only been one tour that they've started elsewhere.

"Starting in the North East is an omen for us now. The reason we keep coming back is the audiences are so great so let's keep that up," Gary said.
