The man band had shifted a whopping 306,000 copies by the end of play on Thursday, 3,000 more than COLDPLAY managed with Viva La Vida in June.
And with sales from two of the busiest shopping days of the year still to be counted, records are sure to keep tumbling.
If they can get past 400,000 they will topple DIDO’s Life For Rent and claim the third largest first week sales in UK chart history.
OASIS hold the title of fastest-selling album of all time.
Be Here Now was snapped up by 695,000 fans in August 1997.
Coldplay are in second place with X&Y, which shifted 460,000 copies in June 2005.
Genarro Castaldo, of HMV, said: “Take That have smashed the record for fastest-selling album of the year.
