Best mates: Robbie Williams embraced Gary Barlow at the Children In Need concert last night as the former bandmates finally appeared on stage together
Back for good? Robbie joined the band on stage at the Royal Albert Hall and sang with the group during the finale of the show
Fans screamed in anticipation of them singing an old Take That number together, but the boys left him onstage to perform his solo singles Bodies and You Know Me.
He said afterwards that he was welling up before going on and wanted to 'milk' the moment for a bit longer.
It was the first time they had appeared together on stage together since he left the band in 1995.
Reunited but not re-formed: Robbie hugged Take That's Mark Owen, watched by Howard Donald, as he joined them on stage for the first time since 1995

Take a sad so-long and make it better ... Lily Allen, Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow and Paul McCartney perform Hey Jude
And later came the moment all TT fans had been waiting for - GARY BARLOW and Robbie arm in arm, singing on stage together for the Children In Need gig at London's Royal Albert Hall.
SIR PAUL McCARTNEY sat at the piano and kicked off a stunning Hey Jude finale to the show with the mega guest list of star performers belting out the "na na na na-na-na-na" chorus.
Then Gary, who put in months of work to make the show happen, made a quick speech thanking everyone for taking part - as Rob playfully made signs behind his back.
SIR TERRY WOGAN introduced the finale as 4,500 fans rose to their feet in support.
LILY ALLEN, CHRIS MOYLES, JAMES CORDEN, Gaz and Rob took centre stage in an emotional moment none of them will ever forget.
Gary said: "This was no work at all. It was a pleasure. Hopefully we will see you all again next year."
He then walked off stage cuddling his pal Robbie - hopefully planning to discuss the official Take That comeback.
The stellar line-up had included CHERYL COLE, DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY, LEONA LEWIS, ANNIE LENNOX, DIZZEE RASCAL, SNOW PATROL and MUSE.
Take That, dressed in smart dinner suits, opened the show with hit single Greatest Day.
Then came the moment that nearly set Robbie off.
Gary said: "What a beautiful place we are in tonight. What a perfect time to introduce an old friend of ours. Please welcome on stage Robbie Williams!"
Robbie came on, cuddled Gaz, waved to the crowd then embraced each of the man band one by one.
It was a truly moving moment and the crowd went bananas.
Robbie's bottom lip was wobbling and he had to compose himself before singing his single Bodies.
He said afterwards: "I was tearing up before I came on, knowing what was just about to happen and what the reaction was going to be like."
On stage Robbie looked like he was waiting for the group hug but JASON ORANGE, HOWARD DONALD and MARK OWEN slipped off followed by Gary, who was choking up, too.
Rob then started a Mexican wave before singing You Know Me, his second single from new album Reality Killed The Video Star.
He climbed into the crowd and kissed a fan, loving every second of the performance.
Rob finished the song slipping into an impromptu version of THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS' Unchained Melody and earned a standing ovation.
I spoke to him afterwards and he said he said he couldn't wait to get back with his old pals full time.
Of being on stage with his mates again: "We should have milked it for a lot longer. I was trying to call them back and do a bow. It's the first time in 15 years we were together, we should have at least stayed for 15 minutes.
"While they were singing I wanted to grab a mic and start singing too. It would have to have been Back For Good.
"I'm not nervous around them any more because we've spent a lot of time around each other now. All the bitterness and resentment has gone. We're just left with four lovely lads who I love to pieces. It's total respect now."
Talking about a possible reunion, he added: "The ball is definitely rolling. We don't know how to do it yet, nothing is planned but I'll be keeping the Brits to myself. We'll save it for something special."
I poked fun at his barnet, asking if it was more JEDWARD or MORRISSEY. He laughed: "It is supposed to be Morrissey, but it's a bit Jedward, isn't it?"

Robbie Williams joins Take That on stage at the Children In Need Concert 2009 at the Royal Albert Hall
With his hair styled into a quiff, Robbie Williams looks raring to go ahead of the Children In Need concert tonight where it is hoped he will finally join Take That on stage.
The singer, 35, was mobbed by fans as he nipped outside the Royal Albert Hall in London for a quick cigarette break where tonight's gig will be held.
Yesterday Robbie and former band mate Gary Barlow showed they really are the best of friends as they posed with Fearne Cotton at Radio 1's Maida Vale studios where the acts have been rehearsing.
So excited: The singer had his hair styled into a quiff and looked relaxed as he prepares to entertain the crowds tonight and maybe perform with Take That
Take That and Robbie are scheduled to perform separate sets, but the showbiz world is holding its breath they will also perform together at the end of the show.
Paul McCartney is to sing Hey Jude with the band in an astonishing finale to the concert, which will also see the likes of Cheryl Cole, Leona Lewis and Katherine Jenkins take to the stage. A source revealed: 'It's going to be a truly memorable performance. Everybody is so excited - Robbie especially. It is going to be awesome.'
Robbie and Gary showed any past tension was well behind them yesterday as they hung out at Radio 1's studios in Maida Vale. They posed with presenter Fearne as Robbie arrived to perform on the DJ's Live Lounge show.
Gary, who recently renewed his friendship with the reformed star, stopped off the studios to catch up with Robbie.
He stayed to watch the 35-year-old perform a cover of The Killers hit Human, which he called his favourite song of the year, and his new single You Know Me. Robbie's comeback album Reality Killed The Video Star is on course to become number one this weekend. He left Take That in 1995 to go solo and became a huge star in his own right. Meanwhile, the band split up after a year as a foursome and disappeared from the spotlight.
But the four reunited in 2005 and made a sensational comeback without Robbie, just as his career started to flounder. In the Radio 1 interview, Robbie admitted he thought his time as a successful singer might have been over for good before his latest album.
Band on the run: Take That bandmates Jason Orange and Howard Donald are set to jam with Sir Paul McCartney. He told Fearne: 'Everything seems a bit alien. I thought it would be like riding a bike but it's like riding a very wonky bike... It's been very odd and very lovely, I thought my times had gone.'
There have been rumours that Robbie plans to permanently rejoin the band, since ending the feud with Gary in recent years and calling him 'my new best friend'. Also adding fuel to the fire were reports that Mark Owen, 37, Gary, 38, Howard Donald, 41, and Jason Orange, 39, were spotted entering a New York recording studio at the same time as Robbie.
On healing the rift, Robbie said yesterday: 'It's a complete weight of my shoulders I didn't know it was there.
'You carry around all this resentment and bitterness for such a long time I thought it wasn't there anymore... We put everything out on the table - I thought this, they thought that, and then at the end we had a hug up and what was left was what we had at the beginning... just five guys that love each other.'

Robbie Williams and Take That are performing at the same concert
Robbie Williams is set to appear at a charity concert organised by Take That's Gary Barlow - but sources close to the singer said there are no plans for a reunion.
Both Robbie and Take That will perform separate sets at the Royal Albert Hall concert in aid of Children In Need on Thursday evening.
The singer, whose album Reality Killed The Video Star is on course to become No 1 this weekend, left Take That in 1995 with the group splitting up a year later.
The other four members of the band reunited in 2005 without Robbie and have gone on to enjoy renewed success on the road and in the charts.
Earlier this week, comedian Peter Kay was unveiled as the star of this year's Children In Need single.
But the song is being kept under wraps until it is broadcast during the 30th edition of the charity appeal on November 20.

He sang on Radio 1 DJ FEARNE COTTON's lunchtime show Live Lounge and also caught up with old TAKE THAT pal GARY BARLOW.
The manband and other top names of pop and rock were at the BBC's Maida Vale Studios in north London rehearsing for tonight's Children In Need concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
And as I told you, plans are afoot for Robbie to join Gary and his other old Take That mates MARK OWEN, JASON ORANGE and HOWARD DONALD on stage for the first time in 14 years. The lads are all due to sing with SIR PAUL McCARTNEY.
All a bit special - and yesterday Robbie and Gary put on a reunited front as they posed with Fearne.
Meanwhile, Robbie's battle to topple JLS from the top of the albums chart is going down to the wire. Early in the week he led the X Factor lads by 5,000 sales. But by Tuesday night they had narrowed the gap to 2,000.
Rob's Reality Killed The Video Star had sold 119,000 copies, as he eyes his ninth UK No1 album. The youngsters' self-titled debut had notched up 117,000 sales.
I've got a tenner on JLS nicking it - with a growing army of young fa
