The Take That legend is in talks with the BBC to compose the UK song - with Duncan James tipped to perform it.
The Blue star presented the UK vote at this year's contest - when we finished fifth with It's My Time, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and sung by Jade Ewen, now a Sugababe.
An insider said: "The BBC is now hoping that someone like Gary with his great pop writing skills can help the UK go all the way."
