TAKE THAT TICKET MELTDOWN

THOUSANDS of Take That fans were left in tears yesterday as websites selling the band’s tour tickets crashed after just two minutes.

Dozens of sites collapsed under the strain as the famous five’s followers bombarded the internet for seats at their long-awaited reunion gigs.

Some fans even lost thousands of pounds on bogus sites which took their money and then shut down.

But touts had no problem getting hold of the prized tickets, and almost immediately were offering them on eBay for five times their face value.

Fans had been desperate for the chance to snap up tickets ever since Take That announced in July that former member Robbie Williams would rejoin the band and tour with them for the first time in 16 years.

But the demand for next May’s concerts was so huge that even Robbie was forced to go online yesterday to warn fans against being conned by scammers.

Just a few hours after the tickets went on sale at 9am, the 36-year-old Tweeted: “Please DO NOT purchase tickets from unofficial agents or eBay. We cannot vouch for their authenticity and you could end up out of pocket!

“We’re aware ticket sites are still down but please DO keep trying, agents are working hard to cope with the the demand and keep sites up.

“Many ticket sites have crashed due to high demand – keep trying and refreshing your browser, you will be able to get through eventually!”

Telephone demand for tickets for the gigs in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham and Sunderland was so high that in some parts of the country it even knocked out the phone network.

Last night tour organisers confirmed the band had sold a record-breaking one million tickets in just nine hours.

Promoter Simon Moran said: “There literally has never been anything like it in the history of live music in the UK. Selling a million tickets in one day in an absolutely amazing achievement."

But despite the incredible demand, some tickets were still available at 6pm last night.
